Deloittes consulting division, which includes Deloettes Global and Deloisi, has laid off 1.5% of its workforce, the firm announced on Monday.
The layoffs are part of the firm’s effort to scale back its operations and reduce costs in India, where it had a strong presence.
The cuts are expected to affect 1,000 employees.
The job cuts are a blow to the Indian IT market, where Deloitais global revenue has grown more than 50% over the last three years, while it has been a major supplier of software to companies around the world.
It also helps the company to diversify its offerings.
Deloitte had been in talks with Tata Consultancy Services to buy out the business.
