More than a third of all women who use image consulting services in the United States are seeking out image consulting to help them manage their finances, according to a new report from McKinsey & Co. That compares with 25% of men.
McKinsey surveyed the retirement plans of more than 11,000 companies in a survey of their female employees, and the gender gap narrowed slightly.
In 2014, more than 80% of the companies surveyed said they offered free image consultation services.
The percentage of women who say they have used image consulting rose from 9% in 2014 to 12% in 2018.
The McKinsey survey also found that women who have used a retirement plan consultant for years are more likely to be employed and have more wealth, with an average of $7,000 more in net worth, in 2018 compared to a year earlier.
In fact, women who were employed and had more wealth in 2018 were more likely than their male counterparts to have access to an image consultant.
